Progress Presentation: March 3rd 2016
On the Thursday, I had my progress presentation. Here I went through the stages that I have been working on for my project. Some of the weaknesses I had during the talk that I got a bit tongue tied and sometimes had a brief pause. Despite that, my peers and David Lyons appeared to have been happy with my presentation. My peers feedback and critique was quite helpful and allowed me to understand what I needed to work on. Callum Fowlie suggested that I revisited the DOTA 2 Visual guide to help reconsider the colour values of my illustrations. Katriona addressed that my poster had a style that was appealing but it didn't fit the overall style of the comic. Lyons was amazed by my poster illustration with its composition and lighting. However they all agreed that the visual style could changed to be more consistent. I was aware of this but I should have mentioned in the presentation was this was just a rough iteration.
Dagon Minimalist Poster
However I seemed to have answered my peers questions pretty well. After the presentations, I stayed until the end to give other students some feedback.
- Alter the lighting on a few comics pages.
- Continue with colouring my pages.
- Work on my introduction for my Dissertation.
- Make another print prototype for Thursday.

Convention Highlights
I attended the Dundee Min-con organised by the Dundee University cosplay society and Anime League on Saturday the 13th to sell some artwork I created. It was also a great way for me to see what other trends were current out there. I communicated with my neighboring artists at the other stalls. I also had a look at how some artists displayed their work which made me consider how I can improve my presentation skills. Some of the suggestions was the inclusion fo stands for my prints.
I feel that I should have reconsidered the position of my table day as it was placed nearly behind a pillar. This made it difficult for some of the attendee to notice my stall just how t was nearly out of sight. fortunately since there weren't many tables, my selection of artwork helped me stand out. I found out about what franchises the convention attendees were interested in.

Progress Presentation
The presentation today went okay. Although to criticize myself that I should have not stuttered as much. if l that I had repeated myself once or twice and had a few pause to recollect my steps. There was On the other hand, the lecturers were happy with my presentation and their feedback was helpful.
She liked the idea of how I was investigating foreign comics in order to see if the visuals can tell the story even if the language isn't in English.
Brian's Feedback
Brian liked my presentation. He asked me if I was looking at film language cinematography
forms of animation visuals can be helpful in storytelling in mediums.
David's Feedback
Dave compliments on my star wars work. He liked the way I clearly showed the dead relatives and said ti was a terrific interpretation. very cool a visual learner, art forming know everything in my head. He went on to say that there's is a famous animal behaviourist in America called Temple Grandon who solves some interesting problems because she was a visual thinker and approached things in a visual way and said that her findings may be interesting. He suggested that I have a look at her work.
Lynn's Feedback
Lynn showed what I've been up to do this. She was interested in my idea of how I was to evaluate a foreign comic and see if the story can be told without reading the dialogue and would be helpful it for me to learn other ways to get a story across with dialogue. She suggested that I experiment with the styles and see how it can relate to the content. She pointed out that although she liked the Star wars picture of Luke finding his aunt and uncle killed, she said that Luke looked stylized and out of place. Star Wars the character Luke was more stylized and she suggest that it would be more ideal to look at a different visual style so that it fits in more appropriately. To justified my choice of style, I refereed to a story where the cartoon style applied enhanced the critical story points. In exploration of various styles could occur.

Informal Presentations
On the 14th of October, I took part in some informal presentations.
I was able to provide some ideas and feedback to my fellow peers and even asked them a few questionnaires.
When I showed them what I have been doing for my project, the feedback was positive.
Ben was telling me that I should consider quality over quantity and that I should consider looking at Scott McCloud's work about comic book theory. I agreed with his suggestion and backed up this with the fact that the story I was planning to base my comic off was on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft.
Also if I were to do my project in print, I will need to finds places to print out my comic. If that is the case, I will need to know what type of paper to print it off. I will also need to see how it will look like when printed. Therefore I will need to understand what is the best lighting levels so that the paper does not come out too dark.
They also suggested different approaches to my comic such as making it digital and if so I can add in some effects such some visual effects to help make the scene quite lively. For example if I can, I could try add some animated effects.
